Night Plane
A journey across a cloth; a passage through an uncertain and shifting landscape, navigating the unknown.

Matilda Leyser, Line

Matilda Leyser, Point

The space looks completely bare. There is only the horiontal plane of the floor and the vertical plane of the black backdrop on which the performer is revealed. Using the folds of the fabric, and loops concealed within it, she gradually journeys across the plane, evoking images of height and depth, over and under worlds: a lone figure climbing the night sky; an animal in migration deep below sea level. As she moves she affects the landscape, marking her passage like the wake of a boat, until finally, slipping inside the fabric, the plane covers her and she disappears from view.
